Report: Pat McAfee gets Colts’ franchise tag

INDIANAPOLIS – One of the more popular members of the Colts is guarenteed to be in the city for at least one more season.

According to muliple reports, punter Pat McAfee will receive the team’s franchise tag for the 2013 season which will pay him the average of the top five salaries at that position. The news was first reported by USA Today.

At the moment the average of the five top punters is 2.977 million dollars which is what McAfee would earn for next season.

Both teams are expected to continue to work on a long-term deal.

McAfee was drafted by the Colts in the 2009 NFL Draft and assumed the punting and placeholder duties immediately. Last season McAfee averaged 48.2 yards per punt with 26 of them landing inside the 20.
