INDIANAPOLIS – It’s often said that defense wins championships-and there is plenty of evidence through the years to prove this true.

For one local high school athlete, however, it was good enough to win a special award during the first week of the IHSAA Playoffs.

Ben Davis’ Jailyn Harden put away the Giants’ first playoff victory over Pike with an interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It not only helped his team advance in the playoffs, but it also put him into the category of the “SPUDtacular.”

The play was voted by you the fans as the McAlister’s SPUDtacular Play of the Week for games on October 24th. Harden’s play received 75 percent of the vote and gave Ben Davis their first SPUDtacular winner of the year.
