GREENWOOD, Ind. — An investigation is underway after a serious crash in front of a Greenwood Fire Department Station early Monday morning.

The Greenwood Police Department said the crash occurred in the 700 block of N. Graham Road, south of County Line and North of Main Street.

A Greenwood Fire Department spokesperson told FOX59 and CBS4 that a Dodge Ram cargo van hit a Waste Management rail truck, causing the crash. Officials reported that the driver of the cargo van was extricated from the vehicle and transported to IU Methodist Hospital.

Greenwood FD indicated that the driver told paramedics they looked down moments before the crash occurred. At this time, officials do not know why the driver was looking down before the crash happened.

Extrication and crash cleanup took just over an hour, per Greenwood FD.
