Storm chances are up today and tomorrow as we will briefly be in a warm unstable layer of air with a fast moving front sweeping by. This morning and most of the day will see long
periods of dry weather with a few rounds of rain and perhaps a storm possible.
Severe weather will not be possible until this afternoon when a warm front sweeps through. This front could arrive as early as 1pm here in Indianapolis. For places south of the city the
front could roll through just ahead of lunchtime. Tracking this front this morning, there’s a thin line of storms riding along the front and this line will bring our first round of rain and storms. Some hail and gusty winds will be possible from 11a to 3p as this initial line pushes through.
Late afternoon into the evening hours will continue to see some storms rolling through. Any storms with lightning will have the potential for seeing large hail. These storms will also have a very small tornado threat. The wind threat should pick up later on in the evening hours and overnight with the passage of a cold front and the surface low moving east of area.
Rain behind the front is expected to linger through Friday and potentially into Saturday morning. Another weak cold front is expected to move through on Saturday night; it will bring with it another small chance for a shower or two. Mother’s Day this weekend will be the coolest day of the next 7 with a high only hitting around 60 degrees.
